10 Ways to Create Your Own Good Luck

2014-03-10 By Monica 4 Comments

Good Luck is Opportunity Meeting Preparedness. ~ Deepak Chopra Quote

Some people seem to have it all: a great career, lots of friends, good health, a great marriage, and plenty of money. How did they get all that? Are they just “lucky”? How can you be “lucky” too?

While good things and bad things happen to everyone, it’s the choices we make every day that determine our ultimate reality. Chances are if you really look at the “lucky” person’s life, you may find that she received some great opportunities. But the real deciding factors are that (a) she made the most of them, and (b) she helped create those opportunities in the first place by taking the right steps to prepare herself.

You have great opportunities waiting for you too, and you can help create your own “good luck.” Here are 10 actions you can take today: [Read more…] about 10 Ways to Create Your Own Good Luck

21 of the Best Gratitude Quotes & A Simple Way to Practice Gratitude

2013-11-19 By Monica 3 Comments

"If the only prayer you said was thank you, that would be enough." ~Meister Eckhart

Thanksgiving is almost upon us and is a great reminder to practice gratitude for all the wonderful things in our lives. Feeling gratitude is not only a nice thing to do, but studies show that it can improve our health, reduces feelings of depression, anxiety and sleep disorders, it improves our relationships, and increases feelings of happiness and well-being. A pretty powerful tool by any standard.

So what is the best way to practice gratitude?  [Read more…] about 21 of the Best Gratitude Quotes & A Simple Way to Practice Gratitude

6 Practices for Opening Your Mind to Abundance

Abundance Quote

Feeling Abundant by Overcoming a Scarcity Mindset

How many times have you said, “I don’t have enough time,” “I don’t have enough money,” “I don’t have enough…. love, enough friendship, enough knowledge, enough energy….enough you name it”?

I know I have found myself saying these things, especially about time. I never seem to have enough of it. I’ve been focusing on reminding myself that I have enough time and that I just need to slow down and breathe.

Any time we focus on scarcity, lack, or limitation, we lose focus of our own abundance and actually make things worse instead of better. Stephen Covey coined the term “scarcity mentality” for this principle in his book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Covey says, “People with a scarcity mentality tend to see everything in terms of win-lose. There is only so much; and if someone else has it, that means there will be less for me.”

Finding Your Life’s Purpose in the Now

2013-01-08 By Monica 2 Comments

present moment, mindfulness
“Realize deeply that the present moment is all you have. Make the NOW the primary focus of your life.” ~Eckhart Tolle

There have been many books and articles written about finding your passion, your life purpose, what you are meant to do. Most of these articles have been written to specifically address your career path and finding something that brings you joy and fulfillment. An important aspect of life purpose is often overlooked however. In Finding Your Life’s Purpose, Eckhart Tolle defines the primary life purpose and talks about why so many of us are unhappy and dissatisfied with our lives. We spend our time stuck in the past or thinking about the future while entirely missing the now. The past and future only exist in our minds as thoughts or memories.

“Always say “yes” to the present moment. What could be more futile, more insane, than to create inner resistance to what already is? what could be more insane than to oppose life itself, which is now and always now? Surrender to what is. Say “yes” to life — and see how life suddenly starts working for you rather than against you.” ~Eckhart Tolle

Eckhart says we have two purposes in life, a primary purpose and a secondary purpose. According to Eckhart, we get so caught up in life and in trying to discover our purpose that we miss the whole point, or primary purpose as he calls it. When we’re in this state, everything just becomes a means to an end.

Primary purpose: Our primary purpose is to live in the Present Moment, to be here fully and know we are exactly where we are meant to be at that moment doing exactly what we’re supposed to be doing. This is also called mindfulness.

To practice mindfulness, simply stop for a moment and focus on your breath. The simple act of focusing on your breath brings your focus to the body and it quiets the mind. Thich Nhat Hanh says, “The first miracle brought about by mindfulness is your own presence, real presence. With this energy dwelling in you, you become completely alive.”

Secondary purpose: Your secondary purpose is what you are meant to do which is also referred to as Dharma in The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success. Everyone has a purpose in life, a unique gift or special talent to give to others. And when we blend this unique talent with service to others, we experience the ecstasy and exultation of our own spirit, which is the ultimate goal of all goals.

“The inspiration you seek is already within you. Be silent and listen.” ~Rumi

Often, we are so caught up in everyday life that we don’t notice our purpose. That’s where quiet meditation comes in. It’s often easier said than done when you first get started but it doesn’t have to be. Just take a few minutes to sit in quiet each day and just listen, focus on your breathing. You don’t need to do any special breathing techniques or rituals, just be. You will find the more often you do this, the easier it gets and the longer you are able to do this. How do you use meditation? Share your thoughts below.

Success

path - journey not a destination

“Success is a Journey, Not a Destination” ~Deepak Chopra

What does does the word success mean to you? Do you have a clear picture of how success would look? If you are like most people, success has many components, not just financial wealth. One of my favorite definitions of success comes from the book the Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra.

In the book, Deepak Chopra defines success as ‘the continued expansion of happiness and the progressive realization of worthy goals’. He goes on to say that, ‘There are many aspects to success; material wealth is only one component.…But success also includes good health, energy and enthusiasm for life, fulfilling relationships, creative freedom, emotional and psychological stability, a sense of well-being, and peace of mind.
Success is a Journey, not a destination.”

LifeOhm is about that journey, sharing information on ways to make your road to success more enjoyable, your goals more attainable, and reminders about having fun and savoring life along the way. We would love to hear your stories on success, inspirations, and feedback – so please feel free to share!
